Over The Knee

I found myself being drawn more and more to Stuart Weitzman over the knee boots, particularly the highstreet style. I cannot ever see myself wanting to spend that much on anything, let alone a pair of boots that aren't super practical for every day wear, so I went with a much more affordable pair from Forever 21 instead. They aren't an exact copy so I don't feel cheesy sporting designer knock-offs.

My one complaint about these boots? They get pretty bunchy around the knees. I think they would fit a little nicer in that area if they laced up the top 6 inches in the back. Laces would also help them fit better over jeans (they can be a little hard to pull on all the way), and would be nice to help tighten them up when I've worn them bare legged with skirts. But hey, they are from Forever 21, so what can you expect? Overall they are a very cute and comfortable boot at a great price.

Work Wear: Tuxedo Trousers

I'm still in the process of revamping and remixing my work wardrobe. It's funny to think that when I first starting working full time after college, I wore boot cut dress pants in black, gray, and navy. All the time. I remember wearing a teal shirt with my black pants one day, and one of my coworkers said, "Wow, you're wearing color! You always wear black, white and gray." I caught me a little off guard because I thought my work wear was a little more fun than that. After transitioning into a new role at my job, one where I could stop wearing pantyhose and start wearing open toed shoes, I began to get a little, no, a LOT more adventurous with color.

While I have certainly been wearing more color, I'm fully aware that this outfit is in fact, black, white and gray. Regardless, it's still a major upgrade from what I wore four years ago. I've gotten rid of all my boot cut dress pants and traded them for slim cut, straight leg trousers. These black tuxedo trousers are a little more interesting with satin stripes down the sides. They are also more high-waisted than what I've worn in the past. And for my blazer? This white ruched sleeve blazer is so much better than the stuffy gray version I used to wear that was half of the suit I bought for job interviews. I skipped the button-up blouse and went with an easy gray tee to finish the look.

Work Wear: Fancy Pants

A couple weeks back, I posted three outfit ideas for work, along with the promise that I'd try them out ASAP. This is my first real life version of those looks.

These pants. are. SO. COMFY! I'm so glad I stumbled across these drapey trousers at H&M. Okay, so maybe they slightly resemble pajama pants, but with the addition of a blazer, I felt perfectly dressed up enough for my business casual workplace. I'm pretty sure my coworkers agreed. I didn't even get any "you're wearing that?!" looks, at least. 

After work, I normally change into comfy clothes, or jeans if I'm going out somewhere. But the day I wore these pants? I didn't want to take them off. I threw on a t-shirt and a different pair of sandals and I was set for dinner out. (You can catch that look here next week.)

So here's my advice. If you want to be incredibly comfortable in your nine to five, snatch up a pair of loose fitting trousers. Even some with a drawstring like mine. Pair them with a structured top or blazer to combat the flowiness on bottom, and voila. Most comfortable work outfit, ever.

C'est La Vie

I love Zara heels. I have quite a few pairs, and they are by far the most comfortable heels I own. Most of the ones I own are from the Trafaluc line (since they are a lot cheaper, duh!). I don't have any red shoes, so I decided to snatch up this pair to create some of the outfits I've been dreaming up. I wore this out to a concert with the bf and his friends last Friday. It's been a while since I've seen live music and it was tons of fun. I'll admit though- while these shoes were perfectly comfortable to walk around in, standing up for 2 hours was not a good idea. I'll know better next time.

I debating getting this blazer tailored since its several sizes too big, but after trying it on a few more times, I decided it was actually the perfect "boyfriend" fit. Of course its not something I'd wear to work, but I liked it over a t-shirt for a casual night out look. I'm really digging the powder blue and red combo (inspired by this)!

How We Wore It: Fall Plaid

Today I've teamed up with Jessica of Afternoon Style for a collaboration around plaid! We decided to do a post together after I noticed a comment on her Instagram that she is a Shailene Woodley lookalike. I have been told soooo many times that I look like Shailene, especially when The Secret Life of the American Teenager first came out. Since we have the same celebrity doppelganger, obviously that means Jessica and I are twins! Lol. 

We both love plaid for fall, so we each styled a look based on the trend. I work a 9 to 5 job, so I put together a work look centered around my new favorite plaid blazer. Jessica is a student, so she styled a super cute casual look using a plaid button up and striped tee.

Work Wear: Floral and Stripes

I have been looking for a black and white striped dress for a while now, and this one fit the bill. I love that the top has horizontal stripes, while the bottom is vertical. Brings a little more interest, and vertical stripes on bottom can definitely help us petite girls look a bit taller! My J.Crew Mari's have been on repeat lately, and I love that my Target crossbody bag matches perfectly. I added my floral blazer on top to keep from looking like a nicely accessorized jail bird. It definitely added the right touch to my look!
