Sneaks

I've joined the bandwagon of wearing skinny jeans with sneakers. (Does anyone else call them tennis shoes? For some reason I feel weird saying sneakers.) I hadn't bought a new pair of tennis shoes in so long, but I needed a pair for work recently so I picked up these emerald ones. Looking back, I think I would have preferred a gray or black pair, but I do really like the color of these. I have worn them several times with skinny jeans when I am running out on the weekends with neutral outfits, but they also felt right in a monochrome scheme. Most comfortable errand running outfit ever.

I love a good print mix, and this combination of plaid and fair isle feels perfect for winter. I love wearing olive as a neutral, so this coat went perfectly on top. I am so glad the leaves finally turned different colors here in Dallas! If the average high temperature is still sitting around 60-65, at least the scenery outside looks seasonally appropriate. I actually wore this outfit/took these pics on Thanksgiving day in between the bf's Thanksgiving lunch and hanging with my family afterwards. I'm so glad we stumbled upon this part of the street near where he lives. I have a feeling I'm going to be shooting a lot more outfits here! It looked so pretty with the trees and all the different older buildings.

Hope your December is going well and you aren't too stressed with the upcoming holidays! This is the best time of the year and I'm trying to enjoy it as much as I can while it lasts!

Please tell me I'm not the only person who has an obsession with a particular article of clothing or accessory that doesn't work well for the climate you live in or for your lifestyle. What I'm getting at is that I LOVE buying coats. I don't even want to count how many I have because its embarrassing. The reason why this is a particularly worthless obsession is that I live in Texas. We get maybe 3 months of coat-appropriate weather, maybe. And yet, every fall (before it ever gets the slightest bit cold) I go into a coat obsessed frenzy! You saw my September haul post where I bought not one, but two coats. I'll let you in on a little secret- my November haul contains several more coats...Embarrassing.

A year or so ago, I remember seeing a striped shift dress with pockets from Club Monaco and loving it. Unfortunately, Club Monaco is basically always out of my budget, so I had to pass. I'm really glad I caught this Gap version before it sold out! It's the perfect spring dress. It took me from Saturday errands to date night without having to change any piece of my look (well, maybe that's because I'm a wear heels everyday kind of girl so I didn't have to change my shoes).

Do you guys ever find yourself wearing the same color constantly? March was kind of the month of pink for me, and I'm starting to think blue will be my favorite color for April, as evidenced by my new Zara bag and two blue outfits in a row. I didn't think I would like carrying my blue bag with a blue dress, but since it matched the color of the pockets, I couldn't resist!

Holiday Lookbook: Casual Get Together

I'm excited to start my Holiday Lookbook series today! There are tons of parties happening this season, so I'm going to show you what I plan to wear to the ones I'm attending, from head to toe! With each outfit, I'm  also going to be showing my hair, makeup, and nail looks.

I'm starting off the series with a more casual look perfect for a holiday get together with friends, whether its a party at a friends house or a fun dinner out. I chose a mostly neutral palette and added a pop of red for a Christmassy touch that isn't too obvious. The sequin collar on my shirt adds a bit of sparkle which is perfect for any holiday event!

I wanted to wear some fun jewelry with my outfit, but nothing that would compete with the sequins. I skipped the necklace since I already had sparkle around my neckline, and chose some small rhinestone drop earrings instead. My rhinestone bracelet and sparkly rings completed the look. Crossbody bag- Target

A small crossbody bag is perfect for a casual get together, especially if you are going to be standing a lot. It keeps you hands free so you can easily hold on to your yummy drinks and food. This one feels a little luxe with faux fur accents, and its super affordable! I like that the color of it contrasts with my red top for to add more dimension to my look.

Sleek eyeshadow palette in Storm, NYX blush in Spice, Benefit They're Real Mascara, Revlon lipstick in Black Cherry

I won't claim to be any sort of makeup application expert, but I do like to play around with different eyeshadows and lipcolors. For this look I wanted to play up the drama with darker makeup since my outfit was very neutral. I mixed the gunmetal and bronze shadows in my Sleek palette and applied them all over my lids up to the crease. I placed a piece of tape diagonally from the corner of my eye up towards the end of my brow to create a clean line. I then applied the black shadow to my crease and outer v, feathering it in from the tape towards the center of my lid. I popped a bit of the gold shadow in the middle of my lid to create dimension. After two coats of mascara, I applied a cinnamon colored blush to the apples of my cheeks, and my favorite dark lipstick.

For my hair, I created loose waves by wrapping my hair around my 1" Conair curling iron without using the clamp. I took a small section from the front and braided it, then secured it with a bobby pin underneath the curls.

Plaid screams holidays to me, so of course I had to recreate a plaid design on my nails. A good trick to creating a realistic plaid design is to take something you have, such as a plaid scarf, and copy that specific print. Since my top is red, I started with a green polish as the base color for a subtle festive touch to my look. I used a navy polish to create a thick horizontal and vertical stripe across my nails. Then I painted white lines on either side of the navy stripes, and a thin vertical and horizontal red stripe opposite the navy.
