Work Wear: Stripes on Stripes

So I may be taking "stripes on stripes" too figuratively since the second set of stripes are the two leather ones on my skirt, but mixing two striped pieces is hard! One day, I'd love to have a striped blazer that would oh-so-perfectly coordinate with this striped boyfriend shirt (like in this look from fashion week), but for now, my leather striped skirt will do.

I am really obsessed with these Report heels! When I find something I like but the price is too high, I always set a Shopstyle sale alert so I get an email when the price is lowered. There are other sites and apps out there that do sale alerts too, but I love the mix of brands and other features Shopstyle offers. I ended up getting these babies for 20% off the sale price and they are well worth it. Very comfortable and not too high of a heel. I definitely recommend them.

Last weekend was definitely an interesting one! We had a crazy ice storm in Dallas that made driving a real chore. I still got out a little and did a silly blog photoshoot in the ice that was a little bit of a fail. I am definitely ready for the ice to melt, and I'm happy that the temperatures are staying in the 30s so I can dress in layers! It may be December but I still haven't gotten a chance to wear a lot of my winter layers in Texas.

I've been wearing a lot of neutrals lately, but that doesn't mean what I'm wearing is boring! Leopard is a neutral and pairs with pretty much anything. I paired it with my favorite cognac leather skater skirt and black over the knee boots.

After eyeing this skirt for a month on Piperlime, I finally purchased it after I got a gift card and coupon code for my birthday. It is so wearable and I know I will be styling it all fall and winter long! I wanted to show the versatility of it in these three looks, ranging from casual to dressy. And I can't forget to brag on my H&M leather jacket too- I love it! It looks very similar to jackets I have seen that are four times the price. This one was only $50!

Blue Leather

So lemme tell ya a little story about this dress. I fell in love with it on the Piperlime site a couple months back, and waited to purchase until it went on sale and I had a coupon code. I got a really good deal on it ($35, shipped!). When I first tried it on, it was hideous. We are talking leather-radiation-protector-at-the-dentist-during-x-rays hideous. Sometimes I really hate when dresses only come in S, M, and L (and it was sold out in small) because you really never know how the fit is going to be. Give me a medium in a Forever 21 dress any day and it'll most likely fit, but this dress was HUGE. I loved the style so much though, so I couldn't let it go to waste.

I decided to take my dress to a tailor after getting a recommendation for a good one in Dallas. They did a wonderful job, but being a newbie to alterations, I had no idea what to expect as far as pricing goes. $100. Yes, $100 to take in the sides and add a zipper up the back. My sale section find didn't seem like such a good deal anymore. (But I do LOVE how it turned out.)

To those of you who get alterations done frequently, tell me; is that a lot, or is this about what I should expect next time?

3 Ways to Wear: White After Labor Day

We've all heard the saying "don't wear white after Labor Day," but in fashion, you don't have to go by the rules. Here are my favorite ways to keep white a part of my wardrobe in the fall and winter seasons.

1. Wear your LWD, but throw on a black leather jacket on top. And when it gets a little colder, you can still wear this look with some colored tights. I would rock dark gray or burgundy.

2. Monochrome white. This look was very chic during spring and summer, and you can totally pull it off for fall. Some good rules of thumb are to play with textures (pair knits, wool, and denim), or use outerwear to break up the white on white look. I used both of those tips to create my look.

3. Black and white colorblocking. This is the easiest way to incorporate white, because I'm sure we all have a white top or two in our closets. Pair them with black pants and voila! Super simple. And I'm all about a white shoe for fall and winter; just make sure your pants/skirt are a darker shade to create contrast.
