Blogging is the worst enabler. And I really don't need any help shopping- I am really good at it on my own! I thought it would be interesting to see what pieces in my closet were encouraged or inspired by what I saw on other bloggers.
There are a lot of items I have bought out of impulse the moment (or at least the same day) as I see it on someone else. Let's start with my most recent purchase- these Zara heels. After I saw them on Phiphi's blog, I couldn't get them out of my head. Look at how she rocks these chunky heeled sandals!
The reason I jumped on those Zara sandals so quickly was because of the craze I saw with these Zara ankle strap heels. I felt like every blogger and their mom had these! I must have gotten them at the last minute because the next time I visited the site they were sold out. Phew! Check out how Rita of Coast With Me and Cara of A Fashion Love Affair styled these beauties.
Now let's talk about bags. I have never owned a designer handbag, nor have I paid attention to which labels or styles are popular. Most of the bags I own are under $50. There were two designer bags I started lusting after when I saw them on blogs- the 3.1 Philip Lim satchel and the Celine Trapeze bag. Of course I would be out of my mind to actually buy the real thing, so I started searching for good dupes. I got this great Celine inspired bag from Just Fab. Here is Helena of Brooklyn Blonde carrying the real thing at NYFW.
And as if one wasn't enough, when I saw this white one from Francesca's on Caitlin of A Little Dash of Darling recently, I couldn't pass it up! Like she did, I found a coupon on RetailMeNot.com and got 20% off.
Now we all know I'm buying more than just shoes and bags. I first saw this skirt on my BFF, and she graciously agreed that I could get it too. (As long as we don't wear it at the same time of course. That would be silly!) I wasn't sure if I was going to get it, but after I saw it on Krystin of Suburban Faux Pas, I was convinced. I even bought a striped tee so I could even further the blogger influence and style it like she did here. (Look at those gorgeous red Zara heels like my black ones above!)
There's more that I've bought after reading Krystin's blog though! Case in point, this outfit. I already had the exact leopard jacket (because I saw it on What Courtney Wore here, of course), so I bought red cropped pants and that red Luxe Craving necklace. Of course, when I copy outfits as closely as I did here, I make sure to link back to the original post to give styling credit.
I'll stop now before it looks like I'm either a serious copycat or a psychologically diagnosed shopaholic :) I do love reading fashion blogs to get outfit ideas, and when I buy a piece similar to what I've seen on someone else, I'll try to mix it up and wear it differently, unless I'm just super in love how they wore it. Blogs are great places to see how other girls incorporate trends into their everyday outfits, so there's nothing wrong with drawing a little inspiration!
Let me know what blogging made you buy! Are you as easily influenced as I am when it comes to shopping?

As for the satchel, I ended up buying a forest green one from VJ Style. It was only $45 which I thought was a great price! I love Sasha of Moiology's taupe one, and Alicia of Cheetah is the New Black's burgundy one.

I know what you mean! If I see something that has been talked about multiple times, I need to check it out. If I fall in love, it becomes part of my wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteRecently, I've been all over the beauty products. I bought the urban decay setting spray and the beauty blender because of blog reviews!
http://cbijicollection.blogspot.ca/
I've heard great things about the Urban Decay Setting spray and have thought about picking some up too!
DeleteYou are so right–I shop SO much more with blogging. It's just hard because everyone pulls things off so well, it makes me want to buy them!
ReplyDeleteSo true! I used to think Pinterest was the ultimate enabler, but seeing other bloggers makes me want to buy things even more because it just feels like getting ideas from a friend!
DeleteI use What Courtney Wore for outfit inspo all the time- I LOVE her style!

She does have really great style!
DeleteThis is such a fun post idea! I would definitely buy bloggers clothes if I had a larger budget, but for now I just stare :)
ReplyDeleteI need to learn to just stare instead of buy! :)
DeleteThis is such a great idea for a post! I don't know if I really want to look back and really think about all the things I've bought because of my blog. Although I will say I think my style has evolved (for the better) since I started.

I totally understand! It was kinda scary when I was writing this post to see how much I have bought just because I saw it on someone else, haha!!
DeleteI totally know what you mean. I've done that in the past. But i also don't regret it. I try to get as much use of the things i buy as I can. Blogging has definitely increased my wardrobe!!! But i love it!!!

I love it too! It has definitely helped to evolve my style for the better!
DeleteWe're so influenced by other bloggers. It's such a creative community! Those are all fantastic buys though. :)

It totally is a great community to be a part of. And thank you!
DeleteI definitely use my fellow bloggers as fashion (shopping!) inspiration. Especially for trends that don't necessarily translate on the hanger- for example, those Zara mid-heels wouldn't strike my fancy as-is, but after seeing them styled I. Want. Them. Now. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Katie!

Exactly! Sometimes I don't become interested in a trend until I see it on someone else. And then its like an all out race to see how quickly I can get that item (or similar item)!
DeleteI am beyond guilty of this! I purchase so many items because I see it on another blogger and I HAVE to have it, I love all of your purchases, especially the handbags!
ReplyDeletehttp://simpleeasystyle.blogspot.com/
Thanks Christina! It's nice to know from everyone's feedback that I'm not the only one :)
DeleteYou're so right. Many of my purchases have been influenced by other bloggers. I want those Zara heels. Didn't know they came in that color.

(Giveaway on my blog. Please stop by)
I've been wanting the Zara heels in every color they come in! But I need to practice at least a little restraint! :)
DeleteI am guilty of this too - just picked up the Madewell ex-boyfriend chambray after seeing it on post after post! But fashion bloggers (yourself included!) are such great inspirations - what's a girl to do? I'm currently coveting a Celine tote but am not prepared to pay full price. Thanks for the suggestion about Just Fab, I'll definitely be checking them out :)
ReplyDeletewww.the-lifestyle-project.com
Of course! Try Daily Look too, I've seen some good Celine lookalikes on there :)
Deleteaw yay! you got the heels! i hope you love them! blogs absolutely inspire me - it's one thing to see a stock photo, and another to see it on a person.. especially a stylish one!

Deleteook such a fun post! there are actually several things I have liked, and then the more I saw them the more I want them :) I think bags and shoes are so fun!

DeleteSuch a great idea for a post. I can totally see why you bought these items. I'm obsessed with them all. If you get a sec, I'd love to hear your thoughts on my latest outfit. xo

Thank you!
DeleteHi Katie! Thanks again for including me in this post:)! I'm a shopoholic too. And blogging only makes this WORSE.
ReplyDeleteIt seriously does make it worse! :)
