September's Top Three

{post}

I went back and read my top three post from August where I talked about how fall was right around the corner. And 1 month later, I have to say I am still waiting for under 90 degree days (we've had a few). Can I just have a couple more so I can actually wear some of my jackets and sweaters? They are hanging sadly in my closet just wishing to come out.

This month I decided to do #noshopseptember to even out some of the damage I did during the month of August (check back tomorrow for my thoughts on shopping bans). I am pushing forward into #noshopoctober because frankly, the weather is still too warm for me to justify a new coat or pair of over-the-knee boots. I'm creating a wishlist in my head though; a perfectly planned, perfectly budgeted for wish list when I finally allow myself the pleasure of a trip to the mall again. I'm looking forward to it.

MFW S/S 14 Favorites

3 down, 1 to go. I've been loving scouring through the spring/summer 2014 collections on WWD.com, and wanted to share my favorites from Milan.

Throughout New York, London, and Milan, I've seen tons of see-through stripe looks. I am falling more and more for this trend each time I see it! I love these white looks from GennyKrizia, and Antonio Marras.

I'm loving the metallic gold accents on these cream looks by Genny, Dsquared2, and Blugirl.

Unlike London where I fell in love with the pastels, in Milan, I fell for the bright blues, reds, and oranges on the runway. [Blue] Alberta Ferretti, Fay, Max Mara [Red] Fendi, Genny, Luisa Beccaria [Orange] Alberta Ferretti, Max Mara, Les Copains.

And how can I ignore all the gorgeous print-mixed looks! [Top row] Giorgio Armani, Stella Jean, Etro [Bottom row] Giorgio Armani, Missoni, Stella Jean.

Last but not least are my favorites gowns, by Luisa Beccario, Krizia, and Roberto Cavalli.

What has been your favorite fashion week so far? New York, London, or Milan?

Blue Leather

Dress- Piperlime (similar in tan), Boots- Wanted, Bracelet- Express

So lemme tell ya a little story about this dress. I fell in love with it on the Piperlime site a couple months back, and waited to purchase until it went on sale and I had a coupon code. I got a really good deal on it ($35, shipped!). When I first tried it on, it was hideous. We are talking leather-radiation-protector-at-the-dentist-during-x-rays hideous. Sometimes I really hate when dresses only come in S, M, and L (and it was sold out in small) because you really never know how the fit is going to be. Give me a medium in a Forever 21 dress any day and it'll most likely fit, but this dress was HUGE. I loved the style so much though, so I couldn't let it go to waste.

I decided to take my dress to a tailor after getting a recommendation for a good one in Dallas. They did a wonderful job, but being a newbie to alterations, I had no idea what to expect as far as pricing goes. $100. Yes, $100 to take in the sides and add a zipper up the back. My sale section find didn't seem like such a good deal anymore. (But I do LOVE how it turned out.)

To those of you who get alterations done frequently, tell me; is that a lot, or is this about what I should expect next time?

Work Wear: Navy Stripes

Dress- Target, Belt- similar, Pumps- Tahari (similar), Bag- Mango (love this, $25 on sale!, Necklace- Baublebar, Watch- Fossil, Bracelet- Target

Target is on the ball with their fall clothing. I am loving tons of their navy, striped, plaid, and leather items! I picked up this dress knowing it would be perfectly comfortable for work, but also casual enough for running around in on weekends. I love the vertical and horizontal stripes that give it a little bit of a nautical feel. I paired it with my tortoise necklace and watch, and then threw on nude pumps and a bag so the dress really stands out. I can't wait to wear it like Jacqueline did here with an button up underneath!

Embellished

Top- Asos (similar), Jacket- Gap, Pants- H&M (similar), Heels- Lulu's (similar)

I'm usually more of a gold fan, but silver shoes, jewelry, and embellishments have been catching my eye lately. I really like the beading and rhinestone detail on this Asos top to add a little sparkle into an otherwise casual look. I love the idea of mixing feminine pieces with something with an edge. This Gap denim moto jacket adds a touch of edginess to any look. I also added a feminine/edgy juxtaposition with my army green jeans and silver strappy heels.
