On Turning 25...

{source}

Today is my 25th birthday. I've been thinking a lot about it lately because it seems like a big deal. And I've been trying to figure out why it seems like such a big deal. Probably because I can no longer say that I'm in my early twenties. And maybe because I don't feel 25.

Each year we get older, whether we want to or not. Our twenties are a time to figure out what we want to do with the rest of our lives. A time when we have to start being "adults," but still have a little wiggle room to do as we please. I guess its a little scary to think that I'm halfway through this decade and I don't quite know what I have to show for it.

But then I remember, I have a good job, a great church home, and I've met some of the best friends I've ever had. I found a hobby I really enjoy (this blog), and I know myself better now than I have before. And most of all, I have a God who loves me and is always looking out for me. He has great plans for my future, greater than I could ever imagine.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, as I get older I've realized how important it is to focus on the positives rather than comparing yourself to where you thought you would be, what you thought you'd be doing, etc. There's still time to fulfill those dreams you haven't yet accomplished, or do the things you wished you'd done. Cut yourself a little slack, remember what got you to where you are today, and keep living your life to the fullest.

Work Wear: Making the Most of Neon

Blouse- H&M, Skirt- Piperlime, Heels- Charlotte Russe, Necklace- Limited (similar), Watch- Fossil, Pyramid Bracelet- Target, Pave Bracelet- similar

I want to make the most out of my summer clothes before fall is here, so this neon skirt had to make it's debut from my closet! I love it's foulard print, and the coral shade is so fun for summer. The material feels fancy, so I decided to dress it down just a bit with this cotton sleeveless button up with neon polka dots.

3 Ways to Wear: Bright Heels

Ever find yourself lusting over a fabulous pair of heels that are either so colorful and unique, but then realize you have no idea what to wear them with? When I saw these mint caged heels at Charlotte Russe, I challenged myself to find multiple ways to style them; otherwise, they wouldn't have been a practical purchase. The outfit ideas I came up with can be applied to any pair of bright, out-there heels, whether you want to showcase them or help them blend in a little better with your outfit.

1. To really show off your heels, pair them with black and white.
Top- Dorothy Perkins (similar), Jeans- Forever 21 (similar), Heels- Charlotte Russe, Necklace- Baublebar, Watch- Fossil, Pyramid Bracelet- Target, Pave Bracelet- similar

2. Wear them with neutrals for an unexpected pop of color. And of course, leopard print is a neutral!
Top- Forever 21, Skirt- LOFT (similar here, love this), Sunglasses- similar

3. Add them to an already bright outfit that has corresponding colors.
Jacket- Gap, Dress- Tobi (love this, this, this), Necklace- Forever 21 (similar), Bracelet- Forever 21 (similar)

I'm guest posting on Pink and Pretty today while Megan is on vacation. Check it out!

A Birthday Wishlist

TOPS | Herringbone Sweater (sold out) | Printed Jacket | Pom Pom Sweater | Herringbone Vest (sold out) | BOTTOMS | Leather Pants | Pencil Skirt | Leather Skirt | Camo Jeans | SHOES | Bow Flats | Nude Pumps | Blue Pumps | Ankle Boots | BAGS | Michael Kors | Just Fab | Tote Avail. Sept 15 | Mini Satchel Avail. Sept 15

Birthdays are a good excuse to create wishlists of items totaling $$$$, right? Mine is next Tuesday and I've been compiling list upon lists of fall clothes, bags, shoes, and accesories. But who am I kidding- not many of these things will actually end up in my closet, but a girl can dream! I've been a little crazy with the fall shopping lately- not really buying, just looking. Add these items to my previous fall wishlist and you've got an entirely new wardrobe. (*Note: the J.Crew Factory herringbone vest and sweater have already found a home in my closet since I compiled this wishlist. Couldn't pass them up!)

All About the Shoes

Top- New York & Co (similar here, here), Jeans- c/o Aeropostale, Wedges- Charlotte Russe, Bag- Francesca's (similar), Necklace- Francesca's, Bracelet- Groopdealz (similar)

Do you even plan an entire outfit around your shoes? That's what I've done here. I love the look of these sleek white patent wedges. They reminded me of a Zara pair for less than half the price!

So, the question is, are these shoes comfortable? Kind of. The height is fine, but the patent leather is pretty stiff, making bandaids on the backs of my heels an absolute necessity. And maybe next time I won't wear them all day at work, and out at night. Ouch.

Fall Fashion: Patchwork Denim

Top- similar, Jeans- c/o Aeropostale, Booties- Wanted, Bag- Koan (similar), Necklace- Express, Watch- Fossil, Bracelet- Target

Colored denim is being replaced with two-tone, patchwork, and coated styles for fall. Not to say you can't still rock colored skinnies in fall friendly hues like olive, burgundy, cobalt, and burnt orange, but there are so many new ways to wear regular denim washes this season.

I love these Aeropostale patchwork jeans. They incorporate the patchwork trend in the simplest of ways, with patches on the knees. But I couldn't stop there- I had to add a chambray top to complete the look. These jeans are more "boyfriend" than I've ever worn, so I had to figure out the right way to cuff them. I used the advice here, here and here for some great ideas on how to cuff my jeans.

This fall, don't be afraid to mix similar shades of denim. When I've worn the "Canadian tuxedu" before, I've made sure that my denim washes were in stark contrast to one another. The patchwork trend allows you to mix and match just about any denim shades you have in your closet. If you're too scared to mix too many shades of denim at once, try out a patchwork button-up like the ones I added to the Shop the Trend section below. I really love the Madewell colorblocked popover.

I'd love to know which look was your favorite this week! Lace, military, leather, or denim? Let me know in the comments below :)

Fall Fashion: Leather

Tee- Forever 21 (similar), Skirt- Limited (similar), Heels- Zara (similar), Jacket- Target (similar), Necklace- Forever 21 (similar)
Photography: Envision Images

Leather has got to be my favorite trend for fall. Lately I've found myself fawning over leather skirts, dresses, jackets, and tops, along with tons of other leather embellished pieces. (See my fall wishlist here.) I'm sure you'll be seeing me in a lot of other leather looks this fall, but I wanted to start off with something very wearable.

I'm not sure you'd catch me in a full on leather skirt for work, but the leather trim on this skirt allows it to be both fashion forward and totally work-appropriate. To keep the skirt as the focus, I paired it with a simple v-neck tee and black d'orsay pumps. This style of shoe is all over the place for fall, as it was during summer. Mine are from Zara last winter, but I found lots of identical options here ($29), here ($65), here ($90), and here (in trendy blood orange $30).

I have 4 faux-leather jackets, but this one in a dark maroon shade is my favorite. I tend to like the bomber style on me as opposed to moto, but I've reached a point where I'd like to try a leather jacket with a motorcycle edge after buying this denim moto jacket from Gap.

What leather piece are you craving for your fall wardrobe? A jacket? Pants? A skirt? Let me know!
